Oregon State Golf Camp
Kailin Downs, Assistant Coach and Camp Director
Kailin Downs, a four-time All-Mountain West Conference selection, enters her third season as an assistant coach with the Oregon State women's golf program.
Downs arrived at Oregon State after spending the two years competing on the LPGA's developmental tour (Duramed Futures Tour) and the Cactus Tour.
"Kailin brings an attitude of hard work and determination to succeed to this golf program," head coach Rise Lakowske said. "Her strengths lie in her ability to teach student-athletes how to practice and play effectively. Short game and mental strength are the most important elements in the game of golf and she constantly stresses that in all our preparation."
Downs was a standout student-athlete at the University of New Mexico where she was a two-time All-American and twice the MWC Player of the Year. She also earned All-MWC academic honors four times.
"She has a love coaching and seeing the student-athletes mature in all aspects of their lives. It's about the experience they have more than the scores they are posting" Lakowske said.
In addition, Downs was twice named the Female Athlete of the Year at UNM and a two-time All-American at New Mexico. In 2002 won the Oregon Women's Amateur, Oregon Women's Stroke Play and the Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur. She advanced to the round of 16 at the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur and 2005 U.S. Women's Public Links. She was received the Edith Cummings Munson Award given annually to the All-American with the highest GPA. She was a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar.
Downs won 24 tournaments as a prep at Bend's Mountain View High School, where she was named to the all-state first team twice.
